Job Competencies

Provide inpatient and outpatient acupuncture to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) patients through the Integrative Medicine Program.

Verifies physician’s clearance orders for acupuncture.

Inspects area to be treated, reports to physician/nurse before procedure.

Positions, drapes, and treats patient.

Assesses patient for any unexpected and/or undesirable physical/emotional reactions, suspends treatment, provides appropriate intervention, and then reports them to physician/nurse as indicated.

Documents service provided.

Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies regarding patient confidentiality.

Provides acupuncture services in a cost-efficient manner.

Participates in outreach programs, conferences, retreats, and other activities as part of program offerings.

Participates in program evaluation processes and committee meetings.
Education Required - Graduate of an approved acupuncture school and completed training that was substantially equivalent to program provided by such a school.
Education Preferred - Graduate degree or higher in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine required from accredited acupuncture school.
Experience Required - Two years experience providing acupuncture in a clinical setting. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Acupuncture license issued by the Texas Medical Board within 90 days of date of entry into job.
Experience Preferred - Previous medical/oncology background
