We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Head and Neck Surgery for our Inpatient Clinic.  Open to an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Prior Clinic, Oncology, or Plastics patient care experience is preferred. If APRN, must have Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA). Open to new grads.

**Travel between the Texas Medical Center and League City is required**

Patient Care - Direct   
a. Provide advanced patient care in a clinical setting, to include evaluation of new patients, existing patients, and consults; to provide immediate preoperative and postoperative assessment of patients; follow-up before, during and after cancer therapies; autonomous survivorship clinic
b. To surgically assist designated physicians in the operative setting, performing duties as delegated to include first and second assisting as required.
c. Perform routine patient care and advanced technical studies in a clinical setting to include but not limited to:
   1.fiberoptic nasopharyngoscopy; flexible laryngoscopy
   2.punch, excisional and incisional biopsy
   3.wide local excision of skin lesions
   4.cerumen removal and microscopic evaluation of the ear
   5.placement of nasogastric feeding tubes
   6.appropriate wound care management
d. Manages daily patient problems as they arise and document actions implemented in their resolution.

e. Physician Assistant is required to accompany and assist surgeon at designated community hospital/ clinic and MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center for direct patient care.

f. Inpatient care in community hospitals (potential): Make daily rounds, provide discharge planning or assist with inpatient consults in community hospitals (as appropriate) with or on behalf of faculty before clinic, conference or operating room duties.

 

 

Patient Care - Indirect 
a. Provide counseling and education to the patient and their family concerning their health care and sensitive ethical situations.
b. Provide a direct link from the supervising physician to other physicians/departments to facilitate optimal patient care and timeliness of appropriate care.
c. Provide a contact for patients, families, referring physicians, pharmacists, and other allied health personnel concerning the immediate and long term patient care plans.

Administrative  
a. Process correspondence with patients, physicians, third party carriers and other entities as delegated by the supervising physician.
b. Assist supervising physician with routine chart follow-ups and order appropriate referrals, laboratory, radiological or supportive care as needed.
c. Assist with and maintain patient records in compliance with UTMDACC guidelines.

Research    
a. Review patient charts carefully, input data into computer database.
b. Assist research nurses in identifying patients who may benefit by protocol registration

EDUCATION

Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. 


LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.  Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. 

Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
