Summary
We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to provide expert care to Urology patients in an inpatient setting. This advanced practice provider will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care. The ideal candidate will have current or recent APP experience in Urology—new graduates will not be considered.

The PA/APRN will assist supervising physicians in providing direct diagnostic and therapeutic care primarily to Urology patients in inpatient units. Care must align with the scope of education, training, and experience of the PA/APRN, delegated by supervising physicians, and in accordance with established policies and state laws. This role requires the delivery of care that is patient-centered, effective, timely, efficient, and equitable, promoting wellness and treating health problems. Duties extend to inpatient consultations, patient education, and coordination of care with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Functions

  • Obtain medical history and perform physical exams on patients.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests and radiographic results to formulate management plans in collaboration with faculty physicians.
  • Take responsibility for patient assessment, triage, and therapeutic management as part of an interdisciplinary team. Document patient encounters in the chart.
  • Perform inpatient consultations and assessments in the hospital setting.
  • Perform procedures, prescribe treatments, and sign prescriptions in compliance with institutional and state requirements.
  • Screen physician calls to educate patients and families about care and available resources.
  • Manage urologic conditions in patients admitted for cancer treatment, primarily for non-urologic malignancies, in coordination with attending physicians and fellows.
  • Conduct daily rounding on patients under the urology consult service.
  • Provide patient education with strong interpersonal skills and a comprehensive understanding of urologic principles.
  • Coordinate patient care with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, case managers, social workers, physical therapists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and other allied health team members.
  • Participate in on-call rotations in the event of an institutional shutdown.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
REQUIRED: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

Licensure/Certification
REQUIRED: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.  Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.  Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

PREFERRED: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
