Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - Nephrology
The Advance Practice Provider within the Section of Nephrology provides direct medical services to patients within their scope of expertise. Works in a team that includes physicians, fellows, technicians, nurses, etc. to provide quality patient care in relation to the patient's described diagnosis treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.
The ideal candidate will provide outpatient clinical coverage Monday through Friday for 8 hours per day and offer as-needed inpatient coverage during nights and weekends. Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience as an advanced practice provider (APP). Onsite presence is required during the training period to ensure successful onboarding and integration into the team.

KEY FUNCTIONS
1.Patient Care
Perform history and physical exams for new and existing patients
Dictates medical records in a complete and accurate fashion to meet billing and JCAHO requirements.
Reviews/orders diagnostic tests and imaging studies, with appropriate follow-up care.
Assists in the formulation and execution of treatment plans specific to Nephrology
Manages common general medical problems
Prescribes medication consistent with departmental delegated prescriptive authority protocols
2.Patient Education
Provides necessary patient education on the patient's medical condition, potential treatment benefits, risks, and alternative treatment options.
3.Research
Support departmental research by obtaining protocol information appropriate to the patient population.
Interviews patients and reviews the eligibility criteria to identify potential patients for protocol studies.
EDUCATION
- Required: Master's Degree Nursing. or
- Required: Doctorate Nursing Practice.
- : Degree may be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003.
- : Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Preferred: At least one year of experience in an Advance Practice Provider role.
