Anesthesia Technologist - Anesthesia Services
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Anesthesia Technologist position is to assist the licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia.
Anesthesia Technologist opportunity in Anesthesia Services department. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, at least five years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician in a hospital with a large surgery center, be proficient in the use/care of supplies and equipment used by the anesthesia care team and possess strong organizational skills.
Shift: 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm with rotating call on weekends and holiday
KEY FUNCTIONS
Clinical Support (indirect patient care)
• Provide technical support for the delivery of anesthesia care in the OR and off- site areas under the immediate direction of the anesthesiologist or CRNA. Conduct face-to face interaction with anesthesia providers prior to case starts.
• Provide support to anesthesia faculty and staff by obtaining needed supplies, drugs or equipment for the delivery of cancer care in the OR and off- site areas
• Set up intravenous fluids, gas cylinders, arterial monitors, blood and fluid warmers, and humidifiers using aseptic techniques. Set up or assist with set up of anesthesia machines and suction equipment for each procedure
• Readily available in assigned areas (stay available in POD), responding to staff pagers in a timely manner
• Maintain operating rooms by cleaning, assembling and restocking anesthesia equipment and supplies. Disposes of appropriate items and ensure all items are replaced and in appropriate location. Restocks carts and supplies daily prior to shift end
• Inspects work areas at the end of each shift ensuring compliance and releasing shifts appropriately. Coordinates shift to shift hand off. (sign off face-to-face)
• Perform other work duties as requested
Equipment and Supply Management
• Determines clinician set-up needs prior to cases, ensure equipment and supplies are ready for cases
• Completes supply room inventory and restocking as needed.
• Knowledgeable of all guidelines, policies and safety requirements as determined by regulatory and standard setting agencies or organizations.
• Performs daily inspections of equipment and supplies on the anesthesia cart
OR Coordination and Training
• May be designated to create and administer the day-to-day scheduling of anesthesia technicians
• Assist supervisors with performing daily inspections or audits of equipment and anesthesia carts. Assist with equipment troubleshooting and minor equipment repairs. Coordinate with Biomed
• Preceptor for student/trainee rotations and new employee orientation; provides formal evaluation of their progress and competencies.
• Ensures rooms are appropriately turned over and ready in a timely manner; monitors daily duties to ensure completion. Ensure reports and logs are completed daily to supervisors
• Resource for the staff technicians (questions and solving problems). Serves as a liaison between anesthesia providers and anesthesia supervisors
• Knowledgeable of all guidelines, policies and safety requirements as determined by regulatory and standard setting agencies or organizations.
• Complete yearly assessment of competencies
EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associates Degree in Anesthesia Technology
EXPERIENCE
Required: Three years of Anesthesia Technician experience; with preferred degree no experience is required.
Preferred: Five years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician in a hospital with a large surgery center, be proficient in the use/care of supplies and equipment used by the anesthesia care team and possess strong organizational skills.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Required: Certified Anesthesia Technologist by the American Association of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
