The Application Systems Analyst provides clinical and research analysis, clinical and research business rules, functionality modeling and support of SCT/CT clinical, research, administrative application systems.  Assess and determine application system needs.  Serves as an essential team member in the implementation process for optimal end user utilization of application systems that leverage operations in the SCT&CT Clinical Research area.   Responsible for the creation of Case Report Forms – CRF.  Responsible for clinical and research complex systems process analysis, design and simulation. Serves as the key liaison between the department informatics team and the area in which the application system has been deployed.  Provides data management and research groups with data integrity analysis, data reporting and support. 

 
KEY FUNCTIONS


1. Department Clinical and Research Application Management (35%)
· Monitoring of department application systems as assigned and design, development of new applications that leverage technology in support of clinical and research functions.
· Maintain current and future web based and client server applications.
· Initiate contact with departmental representatives, other agencies or personnel to resolve problems and questions regarding assigned application systems.
· Assists in developing the clinical/research department informatics direction related to application systems creation and management.
· Research and recommend solutions to favorable/unfavorable variances in the regulatory required data collection within the department.
· Initiate, design, and implement application system procedures according to institutional, divisional, and departmental guidelines/requirements and controls for subsystems within each departmental clinical, administrative and research section.
· Is responsible for coding and maintaining up to date production and development source code in the departmental code repository while maintaining backup copies of workstation development environmental files for reproduction purposes


2. Department Clinical Research Intranet and Internet applications maintenance (20%)
· Monitoring the creation of Intranet applications for tracking of patients throughout the transplant process and follow-up/outcome analysis.
· Monitoring and assist in the creation of dynamic database driven applications for patient care, administration, the core laboratory, the Cord Blood Bank, and the clinical research infrastructure.
· Create and maintain Internet/Intranet sites impacting administrative units, clinical units and research areas within the department.
· Serve as a key team member of the department informatics group.


3. Interface and integrations (10%)
· Create and maintain electronic interfacing to departmental systems and institutional systems.
· Create and maintain data integration methods with institutional data stores.
· Create and maintain interfacing to outside agencies such as the NCI, cooperative groups, CIBMTR and unrelated donor registries.


4. Case Report Forms – CRF Reports and System Tracking (35%)
· Responsible for the creation of Case Report Forms – CRF. 
· Maintains and reports on department systems with audit databases for accurate data collection and analysis.

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree. 
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, nursing, health science or related field.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Required: None.
Preferred: Certifications in data modeling, requirement gathering and database design or related field.  Interface knowledge using APIs, web Service and hospital interfacing protocol HL7.

EXPERIENCE
Required: Two years experience in domain, analysis, design, project management, programming or Epic software. May substitute require education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: Database knowledge of Oracle or relational databases. Knowledge of data modeling and data dictionary concepts. Programming experience using web technologies such a .Net, Telerix, Webi or Java.  Strong SQL and reporting experience.
