JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Pharmacy Automation and Technology  Contributes to the selection, maintenance, and optimization of pharmacy technology applications.  Participates in the routine maintenance and supports tasks required for pharmacy technology applications.  Supervises and provides guidance to direct reports who participate in daily pharmacy automation and technology work efforts. Supports oversight of pharmacy technology applications users, formulary, and other system requirements. Coordinates efforts with application vendors in resolving outstanding issues and enhancement requests. 

 

Infusion Smart Pumps  Participates in the development, monitoring, and optimization of the infusion pump medication libraries with the goal of improving medication safety.  Leads efforts to improve the use of infusion pumps including pump selection, implementation, maintenance, and optimization.  Provides other clinical support and troubleshooting for infusion pump workflows as needed.

 

Clinical Content Management   Supports the build and maintenance of medication-related content in the electronic health record to assure safe and appropriate use of medications.  Assists in coordinating the Medication Management Committee.  Participates in optimization of medication-related decision support in the EHR and other ancillary systems. Serves as a liaison between the EHR team and Division of Pharmacy and/or other healthcare professionals.

 

Process Improvement and Training   Oversees, conducts, and/or supports process improvement changes to the organization’s medication‐use system through optimization of technology and automation and use of effective project management skills.  Provides effective training related to technology and automation to students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.

 

Medication-Related Charging and Team Support   Performs medication-related charging tasks and pharmacy revenue integrity activities within the electronic health record as needed to provide coverage for other teammates.  Provides support and cross-coverage for other informatics team members based on the present needs and priorities

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.

 

Preferred Education: Doctorate (Professional)

 

Certification: All of the following:
Texas State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license within 90 days of job entry.
American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of job entry, if working in one of following departments:  Pharmacy Inpatient (710348), Pharmacy ATC ACB (710355), Pharmacy-West Houston (710657) Pharmacy-The Woodlands (710480).

 

Preferred Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), EPIC Certification, and Board of Pharmaceutical Specialty Certification (BCPS)

Experience: Two years of  related Pharmacist or Clinical Pharmacist experience. 
Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.


Preferred Experience:
Post Graduate Year 1 (Pharmacy Practice) and Post Graduate Year 2 (in specialization) residency -OR- at least two years of equivalent experience as a pharmacist for each year of residency. 
Four years of pharmacy related experience in Pharmacy Informatics and Hospital Pharmacy.
Proficiency with Epic Willow and/or Beacon applications
