SUMMARY


The primary purpose of the Assistant Nurse Manager role is to direct overall clinical operations, coordinate staff management, patient care, and customer service. 

Shift / Hours:  Based on business needs / Monday - Friday / 0730 - 1600 / 8 hour shifts

Ideal Candidate will have BSN, 5 years of IR, Procedural, ER or ICU experience.

Reviews patient and staff satisfaction data and responds with appropriate action plans
 

Facilities and supports staff involvement in professional and institutional activities, initiatives and committees.
 

Assures development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence based, quality clinical nursing practice consistent with current nursing practice research, institutional and national practice standards.
 

Initiates systems to manage and improve unit performance and processes based on evaluation data.

Considers strengths of staff and delegates appropriately.  Empowers staff to use resource and provides guidance to make decisions and implement them. Communicates performance expectations to staff. Encourages staff to consider multiple possibilities for career development within MD Anderson.  Mentors, teaches, and develops future nursing leaders and clinical experts while encouraging continuing education and career development. Participates in identifying, recruiting, developing, and retaining top talent through effective communication, performance management, career counseling, and conflict management. Provides continuous feedback that enhances performance. Demonstrates regular performance, counseling, feedback on informal and formal basis throughout the year. Participates as active member in shared governance model at unit and institutional level. Accountable for identifying barriers to patient care and solutions.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree Nursing or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 3 years Clinical nursing experience.
  • Successful completion of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center New Graduate Nurse Residency Program can be substituted for two of the three required years of clinical nursing experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Upon Hire and
  • Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
  • Required: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Certification in Oncology or specialty practice area. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification as required by patient care area. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area. Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
