MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Associate Data Scientist is to assist with efforts to program, process, analyze, and interpret biomedical imaging results using computer-based imaging technologies, and support collaborators who are also analyzing preclinical and clinical imaging studies.  The Associate Data Scientist will also assist in the development of algorithms for research scientific problems.

Image Analysis Research

Assist in the development and application of advanced computational and mathematical modeling methods for image-based biomarker development.  Assist in designing algorithms to model MR contrast mechanisms and modeling of cancer growth.  Optimize algorithms for use on high performance computer systems. Assist in development of deep learning methods for image analysis and modeling effort.  Ensure compliance with software development best practices including the use of institutionally supported source control repositories, code migration strategy, testing, and change control procedures.

Image Analysis Production

Collaborate with research team members to apply digital reference objects for optimization of acquisition and analysis methods for MRI.  Assist the research team members to interpret the results of the image analyses.

Imaging Research

Participate in cancer imaging research studies, including image acquisitions of chemical and biochemical samples; small animal models of cancer and patients with cancer.  Participate in optimizing the image acquisition methods especially to coordinate and synergize the image acquisitions and analyses.  Submit analytical results to PI and assist in manuscript preparation, publication or results, and presentation of results.

Imaging Methodology

Support the development of statistical methods to compare imaging methodologies. Assist in image signal processing and image processing using advanced computational methods for biomedical imaging research.  Review imaging software packages for usage in the research program to produce optimal images for the research and its collaborators.

Other Duties as assigned
