To uphold these principles, we are expanding our AI governance team, which will be dedicated to overseeing the responsible adoption of AI across the institution.

We are seeking an accomplished Associate Director to be the head of AI Governance for MD Anderson. You will be responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of AI governance practices, processes, and policies within our large academic medical center. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, secure, and effective adoption and use of AI technologies across the institution, in alignment with industry standards and regulatory frameworks. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of AI systems, exceptional leadership skills, and a demonstrated history of successfully overseeing the governance of advanced technologies in a healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities:
Lead continuous improvement, implementation, and oversight of AI governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure responsible, impactful, and compliant AI deployment throughout the entire AI lifecycle.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to embed governance standards into AI procurement, development, implementation, and monitoring practices.

Drive automation and enhancements in governance processes to promote scalability, efficiency, and effective oversight.

Lead the development of a comprehensive inventory of AI initiatives, such as  model documentation (model cards), serving as the single source of truth.

Conduct regular audits and assessments of AI systems to ensure adherence to governance standards and practices.

Monitor emerging trends, regulations, and best practices in AI governance to proactively update institutional policies and procedures.

Generate governance reports highlighting AI safety, impact, return on investment (ROI), and other key performance metrics.

Develop and deliver training programs to educate stakeholders on AI governance policies, standards, and best practices.

Serve as the primary institutional contact for AI governance-related inquiries and issue resolution.

Technical Expertise  
In-depth knowledge of advanced technology solutions and their applications in healthcare.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and ethical considerations related to technology in a healthcare setting.
Proficiency in managing governance workflows, inventories, and reporting systems.
Preferably experience with healthcare AI solutions.

Analytical Skills  
Strong analytical skills to assess technology for impact, technical feasibility, operational requirements, compliance and ethical considerations. 
Ability to interpret complex regulatory guidelines and translate them into actionable policies.
Proficiency in value propositions, risk assessment and management related to advanced healthcare technologies.
Preferably experience with healthcare AI solutions.

Professionalism: Oral and Written

Education Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education: Master’s Level Degree

Experience Required: Eight years of experience with data governance, data analytics, information services, or data management, to include five years of supervisory or management experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one-to-one basis. 

Preferred Experience: Experience in a leadership role overseeing AI governance initiatives.

Experience leading a team.

Familiarity with the regulatory environment governing AI in healthcare, including FDA guidelines, HIPAA regulations, HHS, ONC ACR, etc.
