Summary

 

The Business Systems Analyst serves as a member of a team of professionals in the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) Grants & Contracts Office (G&C), supporting day-to-day functional post-award business systems operations. The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for ensuring systems functional reliability, processing integrity, and alignment with post award business and regulatory requirements.

 

The Business Systems Analyst provides systems support services to internal G&C team members as well as the broader research community. The Business Systems Analyst collaborates with other departments that support post award research administration systems requirements such as Office of Sponsored Projects / Office of Research Administration, Information Systems, Finance, Supply Chain, and Human Capital Management.  This position will have responsibility for Grants systems production support and quality assurance, business systems analysis and project support, and addressing reporting requirements. This individual will work closely with G&C managers to ensure the success of their teams and overall G&C operations. Additionally, this position supports and contributes to special projects and related efforts as necessary.

 

Key Functions

 

· Perform complex ongoing operational and analytical tasks by applying systems methodology, which may include coordinating and managing month-end close, report development and analysis, and troubleshooting system issues

· Perform a variety of complex financial and systems analytical activities to ensure compliance with various accounting principles, sponsor requirements, federal and state guidelines, and institutional policies, focusing on root cause, change drivers and scope, and clearly summarizing cause and effect

· Work with G&C staff, Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) staff, members of the research community (Principal Investigators, Division and Department Administrators and Sponsors) to provide excellent customer service and resolve complex issues related to sponsored programs management and systems needs

·Develop and apply a subject matter expertise in one or more areas of the administrative systems supporting post award administration

·Apply project management methods that enable projects to deliver quality products, change management, and on-time delivery.

·Participate in system upgrades, integrations, and/or implementations, by applying sound understanding of research administration business and regulatory requirements and systems development lifecycle methodology, including documentation of business requirements, facilitating business process redesign, supporting business case development, developing test cases and supporting and executing testing, and data validation.

·Educate and share systems-related knowledge with stakeholders

· Other duties as assigned



REQUIREMENTS

 
Experience

Required: Two years’ experience in Epic software, domain, project management, or workflow analysis.   

Preferred:  

  • PeopleSoft ERP and Grants Module preferred

  • Administrative/business experience in an academic medical center research setting   

Education

Required:  Bachelor's degree. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., business, accounting, information systems, or computer science)
