Care Consultant Nurse - Patient Affairs

This position follows a Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM schedule, with a rotating on-call requirement.
SUMMARY
The Care Consultant Nurse provides expert clinical guidance and coordination for patients across the cancer care continuum. Leveraging strong oncology nursing knowledge, they perform initial provisional clinical reviews, conduct nursing and barriers-to-care assessments, and deliver anticipatory education to optimize timely access and continuity of care. The Care Consultant Nurse provides psychosocial support to patients and caregivers throughout their care continuum.
Serving as a single point of contact, the nurse facilitates the experience of the patients and their caregivers sometimes facilitating communication between them and the interdisciplinary care team and ensuring alignment of clinical and support services. They work closely with stakeholders—including executive leadership, Philanthropy, the Board of Visitors (BOV), and external referrers—to manage designated patient referrals and address urgent and non-urgent care, facilitation and communication needs with discretion and precision.
This role requires exceptional judgment, including, at times, clinical judgement, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and communication skills. The Care Consultant Nurse maintains strict confidentiality and ensures seamless transitions through accurate and timely responsiveness, coordination and communication. As part of a 24/7 team, the nurse participates in an on-call schedule and ensures thorough handoffs during time off.
The Care Consultant Nurse supports institutional priorities by navigating BOV, executive-referred patients and/or patients requiring additional privacy and security for their care, ensuring alignment with the appropriate specialty teams, and reporting timely updates on patient progress and barriers beginning their care at MD Anderson. Through high-touch, relationship-based engagement, they contribute to exceptional patient experiences and uphold the institution’s standards for safety, quality, and service.

- Required: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
- Required: 5 years Professional nursing experience to include one year of oncology nursing.
- Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License Upon Hire and
- Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
- Required: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
