Acute Pain Medicine is a specialized team of physicians, nurses, and coordinators with a special interest in acute pain management. This group is crucial to the post-operative care of patients undergoing major abdominal, thoracic, and orthopedic procedures. They provide cutting-edge, evidence-based, and patient-centered post-operative pain management and improvement of functionality, which enhances patient recovery from these major operations.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and has three to five years of nursing experience, preferably with exposure to epidurals and nerve blocks. Experience in pain management is a plus.
Must be open to future cross-training for non-OR coverage as organizational needs evolve.
Shift: This position is a day shift; however, flexibility is required to cover night shifts as needed. Night shift hours are 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.
Salary: $68,000 minimum - $105,000 midpoint - $142,000 maximum
Hourly breakdown of salary range: Minimum $32.69 – Midpoint $50.48 – Maximum $68.27

Summary
The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse, Outpatient position is to provide and coordinate clinical and/or research aspects of patient care across the continuum with the multidisciplinary team and external sponsors in order to achieve quality patient and clinical trial outcomes.
Key Functions
Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area. Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team. Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes. Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies. Participates in data collection for current studies. Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies. Documents care according to established standards. Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems. Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services. Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights. Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
Education
Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Preferred: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
Experience
Required: None.
Preferred: Three to five years of nursing experience; preferably with exposure to epidurals and nerve blocks; experience in pain management is a plus.
Licensure/Certification
Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200)
Preferred: Certification in oncology or specialty practice area.
Other
Required: All clinical nurses with less than one year registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
