Registered Nurse Outpatient Radiation Oncology

Within a specialized outpatient radiation oncology clinic, the Registered Nurse Outpatient Radiation Oncology delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in a technologically advanced and collaborative environment. The Registered Nurse Outpatient Radiation Oncology plays a vital role in supporting multidisciplinary treatment plans and ensuring continuity of care for oncology patients.


UT MD Anderson’s radiation oncology services emphasize innovation, precision treatment, and compassionate care delivery. The Registered Nurse Outpatient Radiation Oncology contributes to clinical excellence by integrating evidence-based practice, advanced nursing skills, and effective coordination across care teams to improve patient outcomes and enhance access to specialized oncology services.


The ideal candidate is an experienced outpatient nurse with a strong foundation in oncology or radiation oncology, supported by a nursing degree, a Texas RN license, and required life support certifications. This individual demonstrates proficiency in Epic, expertise in IV and PAC access, and applies sound clinical judgment while delivering patient-centered care in a fast-paced outpatient setting.


Minimum $32.69 – Midpoint $50.48 – Maximum $68.27
The typical work schedule is primarily Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm, weekend shifts, and some holidays required.

Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Practice
• Assess patient needs using clinical, visual, aural, and analytical skills
• Provide direct patient care and coordinate services across the continuum of care
• Administer medications, perform procedures, and manage clinical emergencies
• Deliver age-specific and oncology-focused care aligned with institutional standards
• Support discharge planning and patient education to promote continuity of care


Collaboration & Communication
• Partner with physicians, multidisciplinary services, patients, and families to plan and evaluate care outcomes
• Act as an advocate to uphold patient rights
• Support coordination of care among team members and services


Clinical Competence & Professional Practice
• Demonstrate competency in technologies, procedures, and clinical interventions
• Integrate research results and evidence-based practice into patient care
• Participate in data collection for active research studies


Team Leadership & Support
• Organize and prioritize work for the patient care team to ensure efficient use of resources
• Train, coach, and assist team members to uphold clinical standards and enhance performance


Safety & Quality
• Ensure safe care delivery aligned with professional practice standards
• Support quality improvement initiatives within the clinic

EDUCATION

  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: None

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and
  • Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
  • Required: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire and
  • Required: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support If working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Upon Hire or
  • Required: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Certification in specialty practice area. Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
