The primary purpose of the Patient Services Coordinator position is to:

  1. Facilitate access to Physical and Occupational Therapy services at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for both in- and outpatients
  2. Communicate with patients, families, and treatment team regarding patient access.

Key Functions

  1. Process and manage outpatient workflow:
    1. Log arriving patients into the Care system
    2. Collect co-pays or patient responsible amounts.
    3. Page therapists to notify them of patient arrival.
    4. Schedule return patient visits according to the therapist plan.
    5. Verify authorization before scheduling follow up appointments
    6. Review OneConnect daily for patient authorization and referral status for next day appointment
    7. Call patients to remind them of their appointment.
    8. Monitor daily therapist schedule and notify therapist/supervisor of issues.
    9. Manage the Appointments Beyond Authorization task list daily
    10. Manage the Blocking Conflict task list daily
    11. Manage the New Appointment Request task list daily
    12. Manage the Overscheduled task list daily
    13. Manage the Underscheduled task list daily
  1. Oral and written communication.
    1. Collaborate with team members to address admission status changes.
    2. Collect completed MSPQ forms and update verification in the Care system.
    3. Answer telephone calls within 3 rings in a friendly, professional manner.
    4. Screen calls as directed. Page staff when appropriate.
    5. Notify therapist or transporter if patient is ill or has been waiting longer then 5 minutes.
    6. Document in the electronic medical record system all conversations with the patient or therapist.

      • Orientation to new equipment
      • Employee Education Event
      • Fire Drills

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. 

Required: Three years of relevant work experience. May substitute additional education for required experience on a one to one basis. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
