Health Disparities Research aims to reduce and ultimately eliminate disparities in cancer incidence, morbidity and mortality and cancer-related behavior through research and education addressing the determinants of disparities as well as interventions and policies designed to eliminate disparities.

Counselors provide professional behavioral and psychological interventions and assessment techniques for health disparities research clinical protocols. Responsible for activities related to interventions and for completion of other tasks and activities associated with the work of faculty/postdoctoral fellows. Impacts health disparities research or clinical protocols. 

The ideal counselor will possess a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related counseling field, along with at least one year of post-master's counseling experience. Candidates should hold a current Texas license as a Licensed Master Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychological Associate, and demonstrate experience providing counseling interventions using motivational interviewing and/or cognitive behavioral therapy approaches.

Work Location: Texas Medical Center
The typical work schedule is Hybrid, once a month and based on business needs. This is a Part-Time position.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning, Development, & Implementation
• Research information related to specific underserved populations through journal articles, books, training, and other educational activities to support tailored interventions.
• Identify participant needs and barriers related to study participation and assist the research team in developing solutions.
• Develop and deliver psychological and behavioral interventions and supporting materials for underserved populations.
• Participate in the identification, preparation, and implementation of data collection instruments and questionnaire testing procedures.
• Monitor research and clinical protocol adherence and contribute to strategic planning activities for health disparities clinical protocols.
• Assist in the development and revision of counseling manuals and intervention materials.
• Provide on-call crisis management support as required.

Data Entry & Management
• Record and maintain documentation of all counseling sessions completed.
• Enter relevant participant and study data into research databases.
• Comply with regulatory, institutional, and protocol-specific policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Counseling & Motivational Interviewing
• Provide virtual counseling services for underserved populations in accordance with research protocols.
• Utilize motivational interviewing and/or cognitive behavioral therapy approaches to support participant engagement and behavioral change.

Additional Responsibilities
• Participate in the revision and translation of study materials as needed.
• Learn and utilize new software applications required for research activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Required: A Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology or a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology or a Master's Degree in a related counseling degree or a Master's Degree in Social Work

WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: One year Post-masters related counseling experience
