Data Scientist Bioinformatics & Computational Biology
That Data Scientist provides analysis and develops and maintains software tools for clinical and scientific problems in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology department. This position involves application of complex statistical models to patient cohort data, revolving around a software tool suite called LFSPRO, and communicating findings at internal and external meetings. The Data Scientist will also assist clinicians in using the software and collaborate in developing, maintaining, and enhancing the underlying statistical models.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Data Analysis and Database Management:
* Performs data extraction, transformation, and loading(ETL) activities for relational datasets.
* Manages multiple projects simultaneously.
* Analyzes data, develops, and assists others in the development of formalisms, algorithms, and software for complex applications.
Software Dissemination and Maintenance:
* Develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems, ensuring overall functionality and reliability.
* Assists in the development, testing and revision of programs.
* Instruct and guide clinicians in using the software tools;
* Collaborate with clinical physician-scientists and genetic counselors to understand their needs and incorporate their feedback into software development.
Statistical Consulting and Collaboration:
* Evaluates LFSPRO on datasets;
* Assists in the development and enhancement of statistical models for LFSPRO and other related model.
* Advises and assists users and other personnel in analyzing, defining and resolving computer problems.
* Presents findings effectively through written and oral communication at both internal and external meetings and conferences.
Protocol and Agreement Management:
* Maintains the data transfer protocols and access agreements;
* Communicate with data managers from inside and outside institutional collaborators
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, or related field.
Preferred: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three years experience in scientific software or industry development/analysis. With Master's degree, one years experience required. With PhD, no experience required.
Preferred: Omics, Genomics, Spatial experience.
