Summary
 

The primary purpose of the Coordinator, Department Publications position is to provide communications support to the Brain Tumor Program and the Brain and Spine Center that includes management of publications and Web site development; project planning; and strategies to advance and promote the goals and activities of the Program and Center. Will support both Neurosurgery and Neuro Oncology departments.

 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in communications, writing, or editing. Extensive experience with Social Media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) is highly preferred as opposed to Print.

 
Key Functions

Social Media and Marketing
Maintains social media accounts, Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms that develop, working closely with the Integrated Media Office to keep community informed about Brain and Spine Center.
Participates in social media syndicate group and other social media related events and educational opportunities at MD Anderson. Works with marketing team to develop and implement ad campaigns and other advertising efforts for the Brain and Spine Center

 

Web site Development and Maintenance
Manages content and provide constant maintenance of internal and external Web site for Brain Tumor Program as well as the Brain and Spine Center, and the Neuro-Oncology and Neurosurgery departments. Works with faculty to implement his/her material into the web sites. Liaises with Internet Services.

 

Communications
Works directly with the department chairs and administrators in the development of the following: strategies to promote Brain Tumor Program goals, and other programs related to the Brain and Spine Center, institution wide and externally, and other publications/communications as required. Provides communication, document and report writing support to the Chair, DAs, and individual faculty (as approved). Serves as expert resource to the Brain Tumor Program/Brain and Spine Center with regard to publications. Generates ideas for communications strategies and develops promotional plans and materials. Establishes professional relationship with physician relations to keep referring physicians in ten-county area and community at large informed about the Brain and Spine Center.

 

Publications Management
Assumes direct responsibility for development and production of Spine Tumor Newsletter and Brain Tumor Newsletter. Conduct interviews, write and edit articles. Advise committee in the development of story ideas. Develop distribution list (both internal and external) to grow readership and ensure appropriate parties are kept abreast of Program/Center activities. Collaborates with Communications, Medical Graphics, and Photography to ensure the creation of quality design and production for print and broadcast materials. Identifies need and develops content for various communications mediums (i.e., brochures, online distribution, etc.) to increase visibility of the Brain Tumor Program and the Brain and Spine Center.


EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree.


EXPERIENCE
Required: Four years experience in communications, writing or editing. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one year basis.
