Director, Innovation Design and Foresight
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The Director, Innovation Design and Foresight requires a self-motivated and energetic leader who is responsible for the ongoing development of a world-class human-centered design and foresight discipline at M.D. Anderson. This multi-disciplined team is responsible for turning human insights and market scanning into tangible products, services, and consumer experiences that match M.D. Anderson’s strategic needs.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Synthesize Information
Synthesizes information gathered from qualitative and quantitative research to develop deliverables on large/complex projects. This information is then used to develop wireframes, interaction guides, user interface guides and detailed documentation.
Management Skills
Strategically leading a team that leverages superior human centered design skills which supports an environment of open innovation and the institution’s strategic priorities. This position must also be able to lead a cross functional team through the discovery research, synthesis, ideation, design, and testing of concepts.
Project Management
Creates project/team statements of work and schedules (synthesize, create & execute). Ensures associated personal/team quality, cost, and timeliness requirements are met.
Design Research
Responsible for establishing research methods and strategies within a cross functional innovation team. This position must have the ability to discover customer and business needs through contextual inquiries, and generative and quantitative research, and identify solutions to meet those needs.
Customer Evangelist
The ability to build consumer empathy within a cross functional team and emotionally connect to the lives of the people we serve.
Foresight Capability
Develop and implement internal foresight programs by establishing and leading a team to build and strengthen MD Anderson’s foresight capabilities. Also create structured processes and methodologies for strategic foresight activities. Lead knowledge sharing and collaboration across departments to integrate foresight into broader business strategies.
Manage Priority Conflict
Resolve priority conflicts through proactive communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning to ensure timely delivery of high-impact initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Centered Design (HCD) or related field (i.e.: Human Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Communication/Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Factors).
Preferred Education:
Master’s Level Degree or Degree in Foresight
Experience:
Over 10 years professional experience to include experience building and leading a human centered design team.
5 years of management experience.
Preferred Experience:
Hands-on experience establishing foresight capabilities or programs within an organization.
