The Donor Operations department at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a vital role in supporting the institution's blood collection operations and ensuring a safe, reliable blood supply for cancer patients. The team supports donor collections across MD Anderson and mobile donor locations, coordinating vehicles, equipment, supplies, and donor operations to create a safe and positive experience for donors while maintaining the highest standards of safety and service.
 

This Driver position offers the opportunity to play an essential role in the successful operation of donor collection activities and mobile blood drives. The role is ideal for a dependable, safety-focused professional who is comfortable operating large vehicles, maintaining equipment and supplies, and interacting professionally with donors, staff, and other customers.
 

In this role, you will operate state vehicles in accordance with Texas law and fleet management requirements while supporting Donor Operations processes and established procedures. You will remain knowledgeable of vehicle safety requirements, fleet policies, and applicable regulations while promptly reporting vehicle incidents, adverse events, or other concerns according to institutional procedures.
 

You will also be responsible for helping maintain donor collection vehicles, equipment, and supplies. Responsibilities include performing inventory, monitoring supplies and reagents, troubleshooting vehicle and donor equipment issues, documenting problems, supporting the evaluation of new equipment, and maintaining clean, organized vehicle and supply areas. Your attention to detail and commitment to preventing waste will help ensure mobile donor operations remain ready and efficient.
 

Customer service is an important part of this position. You will interact with donors, coworkers, and internal and external customers throughout your work and are expected to consistently demonstrate professionalism, respect, and a positive attitude. The ability to communicate effectively, remain calm when addressing problems, and help facilitate solutions will contribute to an exceptional donor experience.
 

The ideal candidate will be a dependable and safety-conscious professional with a current Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class A or Class B. Candidates who have experience operating commercial vehicles, maintaining equipment, working in mobile operations, or providing customer service in a healthcare or service-oriented environment will be well positioned for success. A strong commitment to safety, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional customer service is essential.

**The hours of this position are centered around blood drives with the hours starting from the early morning to later evenings including weekend coverage (usually every other weekend).**
 

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
 

Operates State Vehicles according to state law and fleet management guidelines while performing any required Donor Operations Processes according to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). 
• Remains knowledgeable of all vehicle laws and fleet management policies, procedures and protocols. 
• Reports any adverse events involving a vehicle or customer according to SOP and institutional policy. 
• Adheres to all safety and regulatory guidelines.
 

Maintains donor vehicles, processing equipment and supplies. 
• Performs inventories and provides timely information on supplies and reagents. 
• Troubleshoots vehicles, donor equipment, reporting problems and documenting as required. 
• Participates in the evaluation of new equipment providing timely information. 
• Maintains vehicles and supply areas neat and orderly while preventing waste.
 

Manages all customer service interactions with diplomacy, actively facilitating resolutions to problems and addressing the needs of clients both internal and external. 
• Embraces the roles and responsibilities of the Customer Service Program. 
• Ensures all encounters, verbal, written and silent (body language), with internal and external customers are professional and respectful.

Education

Required:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience

Required:
• 3 years of Class A or B commercial driving experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required (upon hire):
• CDL License Class A or B: current Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) AND
• Valid and current Texas driver's license with a minimum of three year's history of verifiable driving history. With less than three years of driving history, but with a minimum of one year of driving history, a waiver may be requested

Other Requirements
• Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
