Ideal candidate will have management experience, a Master's degree, knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) system, and knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards.


The primary purpose of the Manager, Environmental Health & Safety (Fire & Life Safety) position is to provide leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in facilitating the operation and support of departmental and institutional FLS programs.  The employee will provide direct communication and consultation with personnel, committees and regulatory agencies to promote anticipation, evaluation and control of hazards.  To establish and monitor a system of internal controls, establish and communicate institutional, divisional, and departmental and program policies and procedures, and manage a budget, staff and other resources.


Program Leadership  

Manages the Fire & Life Safety Program and Lock Shop and provides expertise for clinical, facilities, research personnel handling hazardous materials, and lock and key system programs.
Leads and manages the daily operation of the fire and life safety programs. 
Develops and maintains the annual, quarterly, and monthly budget; manages contracts.

 

Program Support  

Determines health & safety requirements needed to perform departmental, divisional and institutional activities.  Initiates, develops, and implements new policies and procedures necessary to effectively and efficiently operate the department
Other duties as assigned

 

Compliance   

Serves in an advisory capacity and report, monitor, and mitigate discrepancies of departmental, institutional, and regulatory guidelines and procedures
Manages life safety systems.

Required: Bachelor's degree in Applied or Basic Science, Business Administration or related field. Six years of directly related experience. With preferred degree three years of experience is required. 

Eligible to be certified as one of the following: Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM). Certified Health Physicist (CHP) by the American Board of Health Physicists (ABHP). Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) by the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA). Registered Professional Engineer (PE) by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers (TBPE). Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). Licensed Medical Physicist (LMP) by the Texas Board of Licensure for Professional Medical Physicists. Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Certified Fire Inspector (CFI) by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) by the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental and Safety Technologists. Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) by Board of Certified Hazard Control Management (BCHCM) Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) by the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers. Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) by the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII). Certified Healthcare Provider Continuity Professional (CHPCP) by the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII).
