Event Technician - Crestron / Extron
The Event Technician supports MD Anderson’s extended campus by delivering high-quality event and audio-visual services as part of the Event Services department within Facilities Administration. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and teardown of event spaces, including audio, video, web conferencing, computer labs, and multimedia systems, while ensuring adherence to safety, ADA, and operational standards. The Event Technician works closely with clients, faculty, and staff to provide outstanding customer service, clear communication, and technical guidance. Additionally, the position oversees inventory control, preventative maintenance, and supports evolving event technologies to meet the institution’s growing needs.
The candidate will have three or more years of experience in conference room support within higher education, hospitality, or healthcare settings, along with hands-on experience working with Crestron and Extron control panels and audio/visual setups. Associates degree or above in audio/visual/business or related field.
This role blends technical expertise with customer-facing service in a mission-driven healthcare setting. The position supports a wide variety of conference meetings and events, requiring versatility and strong problem-solving skills. This opportunity provides the ability to work with evolving technologies and contribute to continuous improvement in event operations. Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM, subject to change as needed. Position requires onsite presence and schedule reliability to support institutional events.

Salary Range: $45,500 - $57,000 - $68,500

SUMMARY
Event Technician is a position within the Event Services department which is part of Facilities Administration, within the Division of Facilities Management. The position is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of service to clients while maintaining, handling and coordinating all audio, visual, web interfaces, computer lab and video operations occurring on MD Anderson’s extended Campus. The Event Technician will perform duties in association with room set-up, audio visual set-up, technical operations, quality control and inventory control of the equipment on MD Anderson’s extended campus.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Asset Management a. Coordinates with Supervisor and Event Technicians to track the movement of all event inventory ensuring equipment is not lost, stolen or misplaced. b. Notify Supervisor in identifying needed equipment repair and service. c. Conduct periodic activities to ensure long term care and preventative maintenance of all audio visual equipment.
Communication
Maintains exceptional communication skills throughout all functions of client interaction and inter/intra departmental personnel.
Advises faculty and staff on the use of audio-visual equipment as needed.
Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information by all Event Services personnel.
Daily Operations a. Set-up all aspects of institutional events utilizing Event Management System reports and diagrams, in addition to various forms of written and oral specifications.
• Room equipment set up includes but not limited to; participant tables, catering tables, registration tables, exhibit tables and panelist tables. Linens on registration and exhibit tables. Chairs, risers, podiums and poster boards.
• Set-up, review AV needs with in-room client, operate, troubleshoot audio and video equipment including but not limited to; audio visual control panels, microphones, sound systems, screens, projectors, monitors, video or web conference equipment, computers in podiums and labs, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and video mixing boards, peripherals, and related electronic equipment associated with Event Services at MD Anderson’s extended campus.
• Laptop and Computer Lab tasks include but are not limited to; straightening of chairs, printer maintenance (toner and paper), supplies stocked, headphones and computer equipment are operational. Notify 4-info and Supervisor of any tasks that need to be handled.
Tear down and return equipment properly to appropriate storage areas c. Ensure consistent cleanliness of all event furnishings through direct handling or coordination with Facilities personnel. Tasks may include but not limited to: wipe down tables, credenzas, chairs, podiums and millwork.
Notify Supervisor and Facilities to ensure event area environments, restrooms, lighting, furnishings, aesthetics and structural integrity are properly maintained. Submit 3-5000 and 4-info tickets for necessary work needs.
Periodic support with Multi Media/Video Conference Events with tasks that include but are not limited to; i.e. Installing, adjusting, and operating electronic equipment to record, edit, and transmit radio and television programs, motion pictures, video, web or desktop presentations. ii. Support event-related audio, video and web conferences including conference configuration via audio visual control panel, live switching of video, audio and data feeds, acting as a room host, and securing the room at the end of the event. iii. Diagnose and resolve media system problems. iv. Switch sources of video input from one camera or studio to another, from film to live programming, or from network to local programming. v. Mix and regulate sound inputs and feeds, or coordinate audio feeds with television pictures.
Ensure adherence to operational standards for events at MD Anderson’s extended campus. Ensure Life Safety standards and ADA guidelines are followed.
Coordinates with Supervisor to stay current with content, video and audio capture as new technologies emerge to keep in pace with the needs of our Faculty and personnel. Current examples include but not limited to; Camtasia, Lync, Webex, Skype and other similar media. Works with Supervisor to educate self and in turn faculty and staff on use of these platforms.
Ensure event bulletins and door sign (electronic and paper) are produced and posted daily.

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Associates degree or above in audio/visual/business or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: Two years experience in conference center support, hospitality, media services or related field to include audio-visual set up and projector set up.
- Preferred: Three or more years of experience in conference room support within higher education, hospitality, or healthcare settings, along with hands-on experience working with Crestron and Extron control panels and audio/visual setups.
Preferred Certification: CTS certified or Crestron/Extron certified.
