Executive Director, Procedural and Therapeutics, Radiation Oncology Clinical Services
The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
The primary purpose of the Executive Director, Radiation Oncology Clinical Services position is to provide leadership and operational oversight to the Radiation Oncology clinical practice. This person is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and coordinating management and administrative systems related to the clinical operations of radiation oncology services including nursing services, radiation therapy services, clinical education and indirect oversight of dosimetry services. The Executive Director works directly with the Vice President, AVP RadOnc Medical Practice, and Clinical Leaders. The Executive Director ensures that all departmental operations are conducted according to the institutional and divisional missions to achieve excellence in clinical activities in the delivery of patient care and services.
Key Functions
Strategic Program Development, Administrative Leadership & Operational Oversight

Define and execute short- and long-term strategic goals to advance radiation oncology clinical services and growth.

Establish and oversee administrative systems and organizational structures to support scalable growth and sustainable excellence.

Lead initiatives to improve patient flow, expand capacity, and develop new services across radiation oncology platform to include market share analysis and competitive landscape.

Collaborate across departments and divisions and with faculty leaders to drive multidisciplinary integration and strategic alignment.

Represent the radiation oncology operations enterprise in institutional planning and external engagements and conferences.

Provide executive leadership for daily operations at Main Campus, the Proton Therapy Center, and all Houston Area Locations.

Directly oversee Radiation Therapy, Nursing, Quality and Safety, Patient Experience, Cancer Network RadOnc Quality Management Program and Emergency Management functions; indirectly oversee Dosimetry.

Implement best-in-class operational models to optimize efficiency, throughput, and resource utilization.

Lead talent management efforts, including recruitment, development, and retention strategies for clinical and administrative staff.
Regional Leadership – Houston Area Locations

Ensure alignment of radiation oncology clinical operations across all regional locations.

Lead integration efforts that standardize care delivery, research, education, and staffing models with the main campus and vice versa.

Partner with local and regional leaders to advise on markets for growth and quality improvements in community-based settings.
Technology Assessment and Deployment

Leverage advanced operational tools—including automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and data science—to enhance clinical efficiency, staff productivity, and strategic decision-making.

Partner with analytics and technology teams to deploy predictive models for resource planning, scheduling, and patient throughput optimization.

Evaluate emerging technologies and digital platforms that can enhance the value proposition of radiation oncology services and improve access, and quality.

Ensure the division is kept up to date on all new technologies available and in the pipeline through strategic relationship with core vendors.
Quality and Safety in Radiation Delivery

Lead all aspects of quality and safety for radiation oncology, ensuring the highest standards in care delivery across locations.

Oversee the development and monitoring of key quality metrics, incident reporting, and safety audits.

Drive a culture of continuous quality improvement through root cause analysis, trend identification, and multidisciplinary learning.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to radiation safety and delivery.
Patient Experience Leadership

Design and implement enterprise-wide patient experience strategies to ensure consistent, compassionate, and high-quality care across all locations.

Utilize patient feedback, satisfaction data, and human-centered design to identify opportunities for improvement.

Foster a service culture among staff and leaders that prioritizes empathy, responsiveness, and communication throughout the patient journey.
Emergency Management and Business Continuity

Serve as the lead executive for emergency preparedness, response, and recovery planning for the radiation oncology enterprise.

Develop and implement comprehensive business continuity strategies to minimize disruption during emergencies or system outages.

Ensure cross-training, role clarity, and critical function redundancy to safeguard uninterrupted patient care and radiation delivery during crises.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Required: Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, science or related field.
License/Certification
Required: RTT, RN, CMD or Advanced Practice Provider certification.
Experience
Required: Ten (10) years of progressive roles in Radiation Oncology setting. Must have experience overseeing, coordinating and strategic planning for oncology operations.
Preferred: Twelve 12 years of progressive roles in Radiation Oncology setting. Must have experience overseeing, coordinating and strategic planning for oncology operations.
