The Experienced Clinical Nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Shift: Evening/Night. 7:00pm – 7:00am with rotating weekends and holidays required.

Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $32.70 - Midpoint $50.00 - Maximum $67.30

SUMMARY

P10 Surgical Oncology is a 32-bed unit providing postoperative care primarily to patients with complex digestive system, sarcoma, and melanoma cancers. They provide care to complex colorectal, stomach, pancreatic, sarcoma and liver cancer patients and those receiving the complex hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) research intervention for small bowel cancer.

Function: Provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse.

Scope: Impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.

Essential Job Functions:

·         Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs.

·         Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs.

·         Updates and retrieves patient information.

·         Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner.

·         Acts as part of an assigned care team.

·         Marginal Job Functions: Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

Received: Directly from a registered nurse.

Given: None.

REQUIREMENTS

Education Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Experience Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing would be a plus.

Experience Required: All clinical nurses with less than one year registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program. This position is not eligible for the residency program.

Experience Preferred: Must have at least one year of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.

Licensure/Certification Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).

Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certification in oncology or other nursing specialty. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.

Other Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
