Ideal candidate will have experience in planning and management with a focus on work environment programming and planning. This role will support administrative, research and clinical projects.

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Manager for Facilities Planning and Design is to provide supervision, management, and direction in connecting institutional and capital projects to MD Anderson's current strategic plan, evaluating the use of MD Anderson’s physical facilities and in providing effective utilization of facilities planning resources.  This includes assisting the Director with creating, maintaining and communicating procedures, workflows, standards, and operating principles governing staff efforts. This position is responsible for stewardship and refinement of institutional space and furniture standards, directing staff providing institutional standards for space allocation, predictive space and capital modeling, space programming, and project support.

Lead and direct planners in the definition of project scopes including programming and concept planning and assisting with development of preliminary budget estimates and schedules.  Provide direction to planning teams with programming, planning, design, and furniture and equipment planning support, move coordination, and interiors resource management for projects.

Update or assist the Director with updating policies and procedures as required.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Customer Interaction/Subject Matter Expertise  Handles high complexity customers and functions as a subject matter expert and key contact to divisions in providing updates, planning and operational efficiency development on FAR’s and current and future projects.   

Planning and Design Standards  Stewardship of Planning & Design Standards, including leading the development, revision, documentation, and implementation of standards programs for Space Allocation, Interior Finishes, Furniture and Artwork as well as the associated institutional policies & procedures. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.

Project/Team Management   Supervision and Management of Planners and Designers through the Senior level for all of their key functions including workload assessment and planning, regular work reviews/1:1 meetings, development and/or monitoring of applicable policies and procedures, and issue resolution. Help establish goals, provide feedback and conduct performance evaluation.

Coordination Coordination with other Facilities Planning Managers to ensure alignment and efficient use of resources within the Facilities Planning Services Group.

Strategic Studies/Programming and Master Planning   Assists with Strategic Space Studies, Programming and Master Planning, including Department or Division Strategic/Facilities Planning and general space studies as requested by Sr. Management. Assists in defining space programs and strategies for short term, mid-range, and long-range planning efforts. Provides schematic design services including, design studies, test-fits, reports and field measurements.

Document Management   Document Management including written reports and project deliverables, issue logs, and 
key/milestone document management.  Leads the creation, refinement, and utilization of standard templates.  Participation in the creation and refinement of standard templates and regulatory related reports.

Other Duties as assigned   Represents and coordinates efforts for FPS and other divisional or institutional goals and initiatives.

Bachelor's degree with major course work in Interior Design, Space Planning and/or Architecture or Science. Eight years of experience in commercial interior/architectural design to include three years supervisory experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
