The Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine department at MD Anderson's canccer center is internationally renowned for research-driven patient care, specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of all types of gynecologic cancers including ovarian, vaginal, vulvar, endometrial and cervical cancers, as well as malignant ovarian germ-cell tumors, ovarian sex-cord stromal tumors, borderline tumors of the ovary, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, human papillomavirus and gestational trophoblastic disease. 

Gynecologic Oncology  department provides a fantastic opportunity to gain experience and grow in Health Care Finance. Given the number of Faculty and their respective Financial and Activity metrics, the Financial Analyst position will introduce the candidate to functions/skills that will make them ideal for career advancement.

The ideal candidate will bring experience or foundational knowledge in healthcare finance and demonstrate a strong willingness to learn within a supportive, training‑focused environment. They should be naturally inquisitive, eager to understand financial processes in depth, and comfortable asking thoughtful questions. Given the fast‑paced nature of the role, punctuality and strong time‑management skills are essential, as the position involves frequent and time‑sensitive deadlines. A candidate who is adaptable, detail‑oriented, and committed to continuous learning will thrive under the guidance of our Senior Financial Analyst.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Financial management and operational reporting  
•Produces comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial reports for chair, administrator, financial personnel and designated faculty to include free balance, monthly report of expenditures, expenses by PI/fund group, detail salary and fringe expenses, and projects expenses as required. Reviews expenditures to ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures across departmental funds.

•Works with designated faculty and grant team to provide a rolling forecast of projected expenses for grants and contracts including salaries, fringes, consumables, etc

•Assists with creating and maintaining databases and reporting tools to streamline the creation of ePAFs and tracking of staff and faculty salary and effort allocation.

•Assists the sr. financial analyst and department leadership with the annual budget for the department and inputs data through the budgeting and planning system.


Account Maintenance and Reconciliation  
•Performs monthly reconciliation for designated grant funds, review and confirmation for non-research and philanthropy funds, and reporting of departmental funds including PRS Development fund, Research M&O, Chairman’s fund, department M&O and grants and contracts.
 
•Develops and maintains procedures for the reconciliation and review and confirmation processes
.  
•Maintains the FACT table, updates signature authorization, and initiates new account set-ups as needed. Initiates account close and expense transfer requests.

•Participates in institutional audits and statistical sample reconciliation to ensure compliance and successful performance.

•Reviews encumbrances on accounts and work with the Sr. Procurement Coordinator and the Laboratory Managers in closing out POs as needed.


Financial education, resource and support:    
•Effectively interacts and maintains working relationships with all levels of personnel within the department, division and other institutional departments, as well as outside companies to resolve problems/errors or questions regarding accounting reconciliation items. Demonstrates strong organizational and follow-up skills.

•Must demonstrate ability to work with personal computers using specialized financial management and database software products including Microsoft Access, Excel, One Note, Power Point, Hyperion, myHR, Resource One and other financial systems to create departmental ad hoc and routine reports.

•Provides support and education to departmental personnel on reporting and financial systems. Serves as resource for designated faculty to provide balances and forecasts on their comprehensive financial portfolio. Collaborates with sr. financial analyst, administrator and division to streamline processes and identify best practices for reporting, maintenance and reconciliation.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's Degree Business Administration or related business specialty.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: 2 years Business experience to include project management, data analysis or accounting.

Preferred: Health Care Finance
