Our Histology department plays a vital role in MD Anderson’s mission to eliminate cancer by preparing, managing, and tracking patient specimens that are essential to accurate diagnoses and groundbreaking research. As part of the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, our team ensures that every slide, block, and specimen is handled with precision, care, and respect for the patients behind each sample.

The Laboratory Technician in Histology supports this mission by performing data management and quality control for information, reports, charges, slides, blocks, and specimens; assisting with transport and delivery of patient materials; and providing professional receptionist and liaison duties to maintain operational flow. **The hours for this position are Monday - Friday 6am-3pm. The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree in a science related field.**

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES 

Data management associated with histology lab material 
- Perform data management associated with quality control of information, reports, charges, slides, blocks and specimens pertinent to the histology laboratory. 

Transport and Delivery of patient care material 
- Assists laboratory personnel with quality control of patient material and records. 
- Transports and delivers patient material, information and reports to appropriate professional staff, laboratories and departments. 

Receptionist duties 
- Perform laboratory receptionist duties via telephone and liaison with professional staff, visitors and histology personnel in a professional manner. 
- Maintain office inventory

Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree or

     Bachelor's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 1 year In a clinical medical laboratory or similar setting. No experience required with preferred degree.
