Laboratory Technician - Molecular Diagnostic
The Molecular Diagnostic department at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a critical role in advancing precision medicine through specialized molecular testing and diagnostic support. This team works in a highly technical, fast-paced laboratory environment that supports patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing cancer research through accurate specimen handling and laboratory operations.
This Laboratory Technician position offers the opportunity to support essential laboratory workflows within a collaborative and mission-driven environment. The role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and interested in working in a laboratory setting focused on molecular diagnostics and patient care support.
In this role, you will perform laboratory procedures and technical support activities with minimal supervision, assisting in the preparation and maintenance of laboratory areas while ensuring cleanliness and adherence to aseptic techniques. You will also prepare records, label and organize specimens, and help maintain filing and retrieval systems to support efficient laboratory operations.
Additional responsibilities include supporting technical duties related to specimen photography and distribution of materials for interpretation, helping ensure proper handling and coordination of laboratory materials throughout the diagnostic process.
Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to follow established procedures and quality standards in a clinical laboratory environment. The ability to work collaboratively while maintaining accuracy and professionalism is essential.

The hours are 9am - 6:30pm. The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree in a science related field
Essential Functions
· Performs laboratory procedures leading to diagnosis or assimilation of data with minimal supervision.
· Prepares and maintains laboratory areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper aseptic techniques.
· Prepare records, labels specimens for filing.
· Serves as curator of the files including the retrieval system.
· Performs technical duties related to photography of specimens and distribution of materials for interpretation.
· Performs other duties as assigned
· Comply with all policies and standards
EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred: Associate's Degree or
Bachelor's Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: 1 year In a clinical medical laboratory or similar setting.
No experience required with preferred degree.
