The Ambulatory Business Services Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a vital role in ensuring patients receive seamless, compassionate, and efficient support throughout their care journey. Ambulatory Business Services staff are dedicated to managing the business side of patient care so that individuals and families can focus on healing. By working closely with clinical teams, they help reduce administrative stress for patients, ensuring that access to world-class cancer treatment is as smooth as possible.

The primary purpose of the Lead Services Coordinator position is to provide operations and clinical support to the center by coordinating all tasks associated with patient services. This includes patient scheduling, template maintenance, and other responsibilities needed to support efficient clinic flow. The role collaborates with the supervisor and/or manager to oversee Patient Services Coordinator (PSC) schedules and serves as the primary lead for PSC onboarding, training, and mentoring. The position requires flexibility and the ability to function in multiple patient support capacities across various centers, as directed by center and ambulatory business services leadership.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience training or coaching other staff, and experience with scheduling template management. Experience scheduling patient appointments in Epic is also preferred. 

Working Hours:
Hours: Monday - Friday, shifts may be between 8:00am - 5:00pm. Flexibility in scheduling is essential to meet the demands of our dynamic environment. Depending on the Center, some positions may require you to work fully on-site.

This hybrid role requires flexibility with onsite attendance, as onsite needs may vary based on business and training demands.

Hourly Breakdown of salary range: Minimum $21.87 - Midpoint $27.40 - Maximum $32.93

Job‑Specific Competencies
Operations Support

  • Creates, maintains, and edits PSC schedules to ensure adequate coverage for center needs.
  • Provides frontline oversight of daily PSC operations and workflows. Serves as a technical expert and resource for patient scheduling and educates center staff on best practices and systems related to PSC work.
  • Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments.
  • Supports template maintenance.
  • Communicates essential information regarding appointments, scheduling, and necessary preparations to patients, families, physicians, team members, and other patient care areas.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting patient and unit needs, including functioning across multiple centers as required.

Leadership & Training

  • Designs, develops, and facilitates onboarding for new PSCs.
  • Trains, mentors, and coaches PSCs in clinic procedures, systems, scheduling policies, and new skills.
  • Collaborates with the supervisor and manager to oversee and monitor PSC performance metrics.

Human Resources Responsibilities

  • Supports and provides input in the recruitment and selection of new PSCs.
  • Contributes to annual or periodic performance evaluations.
  • Provides input for expectation memos and/or performance improvement plans when needed, and participates in other disciplinary processes as appropriate.
  • Monitors PSC timekeeping, including editing timecards when necessary. Works with the supervisor to adjust schedules and manage overtime.

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Five years Relevant work experience. or
  • Required: Three years Required experience with preferred degree.
  • May substitute additional education for required experience on a one-to-one basis.
