  • 4 years of legal experience
  • Experience handling PIA matters for a state agency 
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Currently licensed by the State Bar of Texas and in good standing, or able to obtain active Texas licensure prior to starting position.

The Legal Officer – Texas Public Information Act (PIA) & External Subpoena / Deposition Requests oversees and manages the institution’s response to PIA requests made to the institution, and coordinates response to FOIA requests received by federal agencies through which institutional information is requested. This position also coordinates/facilitates the institution’s response to external requests from law firms seeking fact/treater and/or expert deposition testimony, reports, narratives, and/or medical information from MD Anderson providers, and coordinates obtaining and producing responsive documents related to litigation discovery requests, subpoenas, medical authorizations, and other external requests for documents/information.  This position is also responsible for conducting legal research and analyses, and for drafting legal memoranda, and providing assistance regarding a variety of legal issues affecting MD Anderson Cancer Center.
