Medical Assistant - Ambulatory Clinics
Seeking a Medical Assistant to join one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.

Our patients have convenient, comfortable access to world-class cancer care in their community, close to where they live and work. MD Anderson provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology services along with a range of supportive programs at all of its Greater Houston area locations. At MD Anderson West Houston, patients in Katy, Memorial, Spring Branch and the surrounding Energy Corridor have convenient access to top-ranked, comprehensive cancer care.
The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience. CMA or RMA certification is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates are organized, strong communicators, and flexible, with a preference for those who have clinic experience. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.

KEY FUNCTIONS
Assists Staff
• Accurately record vital signs and other data, report abnormalities to nursing staff.
• Completion of routine patient care assignments as delegated.
Assists Patients
• Aids in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, greeting, rooming, and vital signs on all patients registered in clinic.
• Reports to RN/MLP/MD any vital sign falling outside of normal parameters.
• Records height, weight, oxygen saturation, and presence of pain on progress note.
• Assist with any procedures, or administrative tasks, under RN supervision
Work Environment
• Maintains environment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
• Stock and maintain unit and patient care supplies and equipment.
• Check expiration dates of all dated supplies and discard or return them according to institutional guidelines.
• Maintain processing rooms, including sterile processing, High Level Disinfection, quality control, logs, etc.
Effective Communication
• Escalates significant events and concerns regarding patients and their care to appropriate nursing staff.
• Responsible for the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Assist in the reception area as needed, answers telephones, recording information on appropriate note and distribute to appropriate staff.
EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 1 year Medical assistant experience.
- Required: With preferred education no experience is required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Assistant American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: RMA - Registered Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
