Medical Assistant - Cancer Prevention
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Assisting with Nursing and Multidisciplinary Team:
Participates in the rooming of patients.
Collect patient data and accurately document in the electronic medical record. Medical Assistant will report any abnormal findings to the clinical nurse or provider.
Prepare necessary documents to expedite patient care in a timely manner.
Assist the providers during procedures, as applicable per center guidelines.
Assist providers during physical examination as requested.
Aids with completion of patient forms ie: FMLA, Disability.
Quality and Safe Patient Care:
Consistently provide excellent customer service.
Ensure patient’s safety and confidentiality at all times.
Aid in completion of activities of daily living, mobility, transfer and grooming.
Ensure that instruments and supplies are available in the exam rooms at all times.
Available for patient to assist with provider during examination and procedures.
Communicate with the nurse any reported or observed patient care needs.
Work Environment:
Prepare clinic day as outlined by the center. Maintain a clean, orderly and safe working environment.
Cleans and prepares exam rooms between each patient.
Ensure that instruments/equipment/machines needed for patient care are available and in good working order. These includes desktop, computer printers, Zebra printers, fax machine, BPA computers and other instruments needed for patient care.
Supplies in the work and patient care areas are restocked daily.
Turn on the computers in the morning and log off at the end of the clinic.
Education materials in patient care areas are replenished daily.
Partners with Clinical Care Team/Effective Communication:
Responsibilities include completion of routine or advanced patient care assignments.
Identifies critical changes to patient status and reports concerns to appropriate nursing staff and physicians.
Works with multidisciplinary team members to identify and address patient care needs.
Effectively and professionally resolves conflict with team members, provides and receives timely feedback to ensure collaboration and positively impact patient care and patient satisfaction scores.
Participates in team and peer evaluations.
Demonstrates superior customer service in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.
EDUCATION
Required:
High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred:
Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
One year of medical assistant experience.
With preferred degree, no experience is required.
