Medical Assistant - Diagnostic Imaging

Shift / Hours / Location:
Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts from the hours of 6:30a-5p. Located in the Texas Medical Center.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Assessments
- Obtain vital signs, limited patient histories, and medication reviews in accordance with DI procedures.
- Prepare and complete all documentation for pre‑assessment and post‑procedural care.
- Educate patients and complete initial screenings prior to imaging procedures.
- Verify medical orders, coordinate required labs, and identify abnormal results.
- Perform post‑biopsy checks, document findings, and coordinate patient discharge instructions.
- Initiate, check, and remove peripheral IV lines.
- Assist providers with requisition triage and confirm patient appointments.
- Ensure exam rooms are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
Technical & Clinical Support
- Review medical records and lab values to support continuity of care.
- Identify basic anatomy and understand risks related to imaging procedures.
- Confirm allergies and conduct patient assessments.
- Maintain sterile environments and assist with clinical tasks during DI procedures.
- Adhere to universal protocols, site marking requirements, and specimen-handling standards.
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Stock procedure rooms and rotate supplies appropriately.
- Monitor chemical levels in ultrasound soaking units and review supply expiration dates.
- Report supply discrepancies and equipment malfunctions promptly.
Communication & Customer Service
- Communicate professionally with patients, faculty, and staff.
- Provide exceptional customer service and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Respond to phone calls, paging, and inquiries promptly.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Follow all institutional and departmental compliance guidelines.
- Comply with Joint Commission standards and departmental dress code.
- Maintain awareness of safety protocols and attend required meetings.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as needed to support departmental operations.
EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 1 year Medical assistant experience. or
- Required: With preferred education no experience is required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Asst American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: RMA - Reg Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: CCMA - Cert Clinical Medical Asst National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
