Medical Assistant - Interventional Radiology

The Interventional Radiology (IR) department is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support a fast paced, high volume clinical environment. This role involves preparing patients for IR appointments, assisting with procedures, managing clinical documentation, and supporting the multidisciplinary care team.
Shift: Monday - Friday / No weekends or on-call / 0830 - 1700
Location: Houston Medical Center
The ideal candidate will have one year of procedural experience.
You will be instrumental in ensuring smooth procedural workflows, maintaining sterile environments, coordinating patient care, and contributing to exceptional patient experiences.
MD Anderson’s Interventional Radiology department is a high volume, technology driven specialty area focused on minimally invasive, image guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The team performs complex oncology-related interventions using advanced imaging modalities, including:
• Ultrasound
• Fluoroscopy
• Computed Tomography (CT)
• X-ray
The IR team is recognized for:

As a Medical Assistant in IR, you will support procedures that directly impact patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre Procedure Clinical Support
• Obtain vital signs, limited histories, and medication reviews
• Prepare documentation for pre procedure evaluations
• Verify orders, schedule labs, and assess lab values
• Support triage and pre procedure documentation
• Confirm patient prep instructions and appointment details
• Maintain clean and well stocked exam and prep rooms
2. Technical & Patient Care Skills
• Review medical records and labs for continuity of care
• Maintain sterile technique and follow infection control standards
• Assist with ultrasound and fluoroscopic procedures under supervision
• Support room turnover and procedural workflow
• Follow site marking, universal protocol, and specimen handling guidelines
3. Inventory Management & CPT Coding
• Utilize coding tools to assign appropriate CPT codes
• Accurately enter supply usage and billing information
• Rotate, stock, and verify supply expiration dates
• Report variances or equipment concerns
4. Communication & Customer Service
• Communicate clearly and professionally with all stakeholders
• Handle calls, paging, and messages promptly
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and teamwork
5. QA, Compliance & Operations
• Adhere to institutional policies and safety standards
• Report equipment issues promptly
• Attend required meetings and meet departmental expectations

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 1 year Medical assistant experience. or
- Required: With preferred education no experience is required.

- Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Asst American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: RMA - Reg Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: CCMA - Cert Clinical Medical Asst National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon Hire
- Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
