Medical Assistant - Surgery

MD Anderson provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology services along with a range of supportive programs at all of its Greater Houston area locations. While MD Anderson - The Woodlands treats all types of cancers, the faculty has particular expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and management of the following cancers: Breast; Colorectal; Dermatology and skin; Endocrine; Genitourinary; Gynecologic; Head and neck; Neurologic; Thoracic.
Ideal candidate will have at least one year of Medical Assistant experience. CMA / RMA certification preferred. The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant position is to provide patient care and customer service assistance to the ambulatory care patient, as delegated, and support daily operations of the center.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures.
Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms.
Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care.
Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work.
Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review.
Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests).
Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital.
Must position, lift and move patients as needed.
Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment.
Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies.
Processes all required paperwork.
Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: 1 year Medical assistant experience.
With preferred education no experience is required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Asst American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
- Preferred: RMA - Reg Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Preferred: CCMA - Cert Clinical Medical Asst National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
- Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
- Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
