Our Mock Code Operations department plays a critical role in ensuring that every MD Anderson team member is prepared to respond confidently and effectively in life-threatening situations. Through hands-on simulation and continuous improvement, this department strengthens the institution’s emergency response culture—helping to safeguard patients, visitors, and staff across all hospital and Houston Area Locations.

The Mock Code Educator supports this mission by planning, coordinating, and evaluating mock code training programs designed to enhance staff readiness during medical emergencies. This role partners with clinical leaders to develop and facilitate realistic simulations, analyze data from mock codes and real events, and implement targeted education to improve outcomes. By bridging frontline feedback with institutional standards, the Mock Code Educator ensures that life support training remains aligned with the latest American Heart Association guidelines and MD Anderson’s commitment to patient safety.

**The ideal candidate will have acute care experience along with experience leading mock codes/simulations or serving on a Code Blue Team.**

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Staff Development and Training

Provides mock code education and development to all practitioners.

Works with Mock Code Educator in mock code program planning, development and implementation.

Coordinates mock codes throughout the institution including Houston Area Locations.

Participates in the evaluation and debriefing of learner performance before, during, and after simulated education experiences related to medical emergency response.

Collaborates with local leaders on scheduling and developing scenarios as well as creating action plans for areas identified as deficient.

Plans and facilitates focused mock codes based on SI reports, RCA discussions, and other data to ensure staff preparedness for future events.

Serves as a liaison between staff and Code Blue Operations (CBO) by bringing staff concerns back to CBO to determine if action is needed.

Participates in Outcome Management and Mock Code Program Quality Monitoring - Participates in the review of the quality of mock codes provided and ensures alignment with American Heart Association guidelines and MDACC policies and procedures.

Develops and updates mock code educational materials based on most recent guidelines, policies and procedures.

Reviews mock code data and assists in the creation of individualized plans for areas where improvement is needed.

Reviews post mock code evaluations and collaborates with the Mock Code Educator to incorporate/update mock codes accordingly.

Reporting

Compiles and analyzes data and documentation related to code blue events.

Documents teachings, learning processes and outcomes.

Compiles, evaluates and interprets statistical, analytical, and data narratives to determine educational needs.

Assists in the review of post event code blue documentation for compliance.

Participates in committees and task forces as assigned, using sound facilitation skills, executing actions to obtain desired outcomes by deadline dates, evaluating the quality and quantity of outcomes.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 5 years Clinical nursing experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: BLS - Basic Life Support and 

    RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure State of Texas Professional Nursing License.

  • Preferred: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification as required by patient care area and PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area.
