Responsibilities

 
Patient Care & Safety
• Perform MRI procedures as prescribed, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and high-quality diagnostic images
• Conduct patient interviews, assessments, preparation, discharge education, and transport as needed
• Screen patients and implanted devices, manage clearance processes, and document patient events and safety concerns
• Recognize patient distress, initiate emergency responses, and support clinical teams during urgent situations
• Administer contrast media following manufacturer standards and the six rights of medication administration
• Apply infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and age-specific care criteria
• Maintain strict control of MRI zones and clinical area access
• Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA requirements
 
Clinical Operations & Workflow
• Coordinate with radiologists, physicists, clinicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams to support efficient patient services
• Manage patient flow to minimize delays and support on-time appointment starts
• Expedite patient care through room preparation, escorting patients, and reducing turnaround times
• Complete accurate verbal hand-offs using the SBAR technique and finalize shift reports
• Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and operational outcomes
 
Technical Acumen & Imaging Quality
• Operate MRI equipment independently, performing routine, advanced, inpatient, immediate care, and on-call procedures
• Apply knowledge of MRI physics, scanner parameters, and cross-sectional anatomy to optimize image quality
• Ensure correct imaging site, positioning, annotation, and protocol adherence
• Transfer images accurately and timely to PACS and related clinical systems
• Maintain productivity and error rates within established benchmarks
• Perform general x-ray procedures when patient-driven needs arise
 
Equipment, Systems & Documentation
• Perform quality assurance activities and collaborate with engineering and physics teams on equipment concerns
• Report equipment malfunctions promptly with appropriate documentation
• Accurately enter exam charges, CPT codes, patient demographics, and billing data into clinical systems
• Maintain equipment maintenance and safety logs, including crash carts and temperature monitoring
• Ensure all patient documentation is complete, accurate, and timely
 
Education, Collaboration & Professional Practice
• Provide education, training, coaching, and mentoring to students, technologists, nursing staff, faculty, and peers
• Participate in departmental meetings, mandatory in-services, and continuing education activities
• Adhere to Joint Commission standards, American College of Radiology accreditation requirements, and institutional policies
• Suggest improvements to workflow efficiency and resource utilization
• Demonstrate flexibility through varied shifts, on-call coverage, emergency ride-out teams, and travel to off-site facilities

EDUCATION

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Program.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Related field.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: CMRT - Cert Medical Radiologic Tech Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT) by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Upon Hire and

  • Required: RT(MR) - Magnetic Resonance Imaging American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. within 60 Days
