Operating Room (OR) Equipment Technician
We are seeking a reliable and technically skilled Operating Room (OR) Equipment Technician to support our surgical team by preparing, operating, and maintaining specialized surgical equipment. This on-call position plays a critical role in a fast-paced surgical setting where your technical skills make a direct impact on patient outcomes.

Schedule
•   First six months Training shift is 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
•   Shift after orientation: Morning or Mid-shift depending on institutional needs
•   On-call shift: 10:30 PM – 5:00 AM
•   Saturday rotation
•   Holidays and weekend coverage

Pay Range:  
Minimum $20.67/hr. - Midpoint $25.96/hr. - Maximum $31.25/hr.

Ideal Candidate
•    Minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital or operating room setting
•    Background in medical technology, biomedical engineering, or clinical support
•    Strong technical aptitude with ability to operate and troubleshoot complex surgical equipment
•    Calm, detail-oriented, and responsive under pressure
•    Effective communicator and team collaborator
•    Physically capable of lifting, pushing, and positioning equipment and assisting patients

Key Responsibilities
Preoperative Equipment Preparation
•    Review surgery schedules to identify specialized equipment needs
•    Coordinate with OR nursing staff to confirm equipment requirements
•    Ensure battery-powered equipment is charged and functional 24 hours in advance
•    Perform routine pre-use functionality and safety checks

Intraoperative Technical Support
•    Ensure all equipment is ready prior to incision
•    Set up, operate, and troubleshoot LASERs, Surgical robots, Video towers and insufflators, Microscopes, Infusion, and perfusion systems
•    Remain on standby during surgeries to address technical issues
•    Document equipment use and report malfunctions promptly
•    Initiate repair requests and coordinate with Clinical Engineering 

Postoperative Equipment Management
•    Clean and disinfect equipment after procedures
•    Return and store equipment in designated locations
•    Ensure all items are stored in a ready-to-use state

Training and Continuous Learning
•    Assist in onboarding and training of new equipment technicians
•    Support staff competency assessments as needed
•    Stay current on new technologies through vendor demos, manuals, and training sessions

Additional OR Support
•    Assist with patient transport, positioning, and safety monitoring
•    Retrieve supplies during procedures when necessary
•    Support room turnovers and other OR workflows
•    Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills and Competencies
•    Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
•    Professional and composed in high-pressure situations
•    Strong communication and collaboration with clinical teams
•    Physically able to manage equipment and assist with patient handling

Work Environment
•    Surgical/Operating Room setting
•    Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and handling of medical equipment
•    Exposure to sterile environments and bodily fluids
 

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Preferred: One year of experience in a hospital setting, with a background in the medical field and/or operating room environment.
