As a Pathology Referral Assistant with Surgical Pathology Services, you’ll play an important behind-the-scenes role in keeping patient pathology materials organized, accessible, and moving efficiently between MD Anderson and outside facilities. Your work helps ensure tissue slides and paraffin blocks are properly archived, retrieved, tracked, and prepared for return—supporting the teams responsible for delivering accurate and timely pathology services.

What’s in it for you? This role gives you the opportunity to become an essential part of a specialized pathology environment while developing expertise in tissue material management, laboratory information systems, and departmental operations. You’ll work with patient tissue slides and blocks, maintain organized archives, process retrieval requests, and use the LIS to accurately document the movement of materials.

You’ll also be responsible for preparing pathology materials for return to outside facilities. From pulling the appropriate slides and blocks and verifying cases against mailing documentation to creating labels, entering tracking information, and packaging materials to prevent damage, you’ll help ensure these valuable patient materials reach their destination securely and accurately. You’ll also support daily department operations by coordinating institutional and USPS mail and ensuring packages and correspondence reach the appropriate staff.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the operations of one of the world’s leading cancer centers while developing valuable experience in a specialized healthcare environment. MD Anderson offers competitive pay, an annual merit increase program, annual incentive opportunities, an employer-funded pension contribution, medical, dental and vision coverage, generous paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.

Bring your attention to detail and organizational skills to a role where the work you do behind the scenes helps keep critical pathology services moving forward.
