MD Anderson’s Clinical Center for Targeted Therapy is a leader in early-phase cancer research. We are seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our Clinical Center for Targeted Therapy team.  

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of three years of experience in healthcare, insurance, or a related field. Experience in business operations within healthcare, insurance, or a multi-specialty physician practice is highly desirable.

Shift:  Monday Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Salary: $45,500 – minimum - $57,000 midpoint - $68,500 maximum  
Hourly breakdown of salary range: Minimum $21.88 – Midpoint $27.40 – Maximum $32.93

Summary
The primary responsibility of the Patient Access Specialist is to facilitate accurate, efficient and courteous access to services for new and returning patients.  This includes but is not limited to: communicating with referral sources, scheduling and registering new patients, verify insurance, securing authorizations and advising patients of their financial responsibility.

Key Functions

1.       Patient Access
a.       Consistently and accurately utilizes medical acceptance criteria to screen and schedule appointments for new patients in a way to ensure optimal efficiency in clinic operations.
b.       Provides financial counseling options to patients including cost estimates, payment plans, discounts, and supplemental financial assistance; utilizing medical overrides and account reviews as appropriate.

2.       Revenue Integrity
a.       Collects complete and accurate financial data during intake process to ensure appropriate financial screening of new patients and verifies data during new patient registration to ensure compliance with required forms and consents.
b.       Uses technical expertise to obtain insurance information, verify benefits, and secure authorizations.

3.       Communication
a.       Uses excellent oral communication and listening skills to communicate with patient, referral source, MDACC physician and MDACC clinical staff regarding obstacles to access or financial clearance.

4.       Documentation
a.       Completely and accurately documents communications with payors, patients, and the treatment team.

          Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Associate’s degree in business, healthcare, or related field.

EXPERIENCE
Required: Three years of experience in healthcare, insurance, or related field.  With preferred degree, one year of experience is required.
Preferred: Five years of business experience in healthcare, insurance, or a multi-specialty physician practice.  

CERTIFICATION
Required: None
Preferred: CHAA – Certified Healthcare Access Associate, National Association of Healthcare Access Management, or CHAM – Certified Healthcare Access Manager, National Association of Healthcare Access Management.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
