Patient Care Technician (PTC) – Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Shift: Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM (schedule flexibility preferred)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the PACU plays a vital role in supporting patient care and unit operations during the post-operative recovery phase. This position works closely with nurses and the interdisciplinary care team to provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care in a fast-paced environment. The PCT contributes to patient comfort, workflow efficiency, and overall departmental success.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate can multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, communicates well, and works collaboratively with the care team. Able to be flexible with scheduling and shifts to meet departmental needs.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare and maintain the surgical environment for assigned patients.
  • Provide direct patient care according to established performance standards.
  • Clean and turn over operating rooms promptly for the next patient, including disposing of trash and dirty linens.
  • Transport patients and manage supply responsibilities as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and check with the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) or OR Schedule Coordinator for additional tasks when available.
  • Organize workflow to ensure on-time starts and efficient case turnover; use time, materials, and equipment responsibly.
  • Maintain professionalism under pressure, handling crises and difficult situations effectively.
  • Ensure all supplies and equipment are properly stored after cases.
  • Demonstrate cost awareness, participate in cost-saving strategies, and avoid waste.
  • Complete annual self-appraisal with appropriate documentation.

  • Pursue ongoing learning and self-development; actively seek and apply feedback.
  • Set high standards for performance and demonstrate a strong drive for results.

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: At least one year of recent experience working as a Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Upon Hire

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
