Patient Care Technician / Interventional Radiology

Position Summary
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in Interventional Radiology (IR) provides vital support to our clinical team, ensuring safe, compassionate, and efficient care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional procedures. Under the direction of registered nurses and nursing leadership, the PCT helps maintain excellent patient experiences and contributes to smooth workflow throughout the department.
Shift / Hours / location: Monday – Friday / 0630 – 1500 / Houston Medical Center
The ideal candidate will have a CNA and one year of experience working in a hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborative Care & Communication
- Perform routine and advanced patient care tasks as delegated by nursing staff.
- Recognize and report changes in patient condition; escalate safety concerns appropriately.
- Partner with multidisciplinary team members to support patient care needs.
- Engage in professional communication, feedback, and team evaluations.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.
- Keep team members informed of your whereabouts when leaving the unit.

Systems & Technology
- Use electronic systems for documentation, communication, and patient data entry.

Interventional Radiology – PCT Role Responsibilities
- Safely operate, clean, and maintain clinical equipment.
- Clean, disinfect, and restock monitors, stretchers, and wheelchairs.
- Follow aseptic technique and correct patient identification at all times.
- Assist with receiving and preparing patients in the pre-op area.
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and required patient information.
- Support patient mobility including ambulation, transfers, and toileting.
- Provide nourishment as directed by nursing staff.
- Empty drains and catheters as trained; remove peripheral IVs when appropriate.
- Perform approved Point-of-Care testing (e.g., glucose testing, pregnancy testing).
- Assist patients and families with personal belongings; follow departmental secure‑storage procedures.
- Transport patients safely and efficiently to support timely workflow.
- Maintain supplies, stock linen, manage trash and disposables, and support daily operational readiness.
- Transport laboratory specimens as directed.
- Encourage patient independence and participate in workflow improvement.
- Identify barriers to care and support solution‑oriented discussions.
- Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
