Patient Service Coordinator – Critical Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at MD Anderson provides patient focused care through a multidisciplinary team approach. Our ICU has 55 beds and 230 employees. Quality and patient outcomes are at the heart of our practice. The ICU team participates in Evidence Based Practice, unit and hospital -based committees, local and national conferences.
Ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and three years recent work experience. Prefer at least one year of recent patient care experience. Good customer service and communication skills is key as you will be interacting with patients, family members, staff and physicians in person and over the phone. Scheduling patient’s visits and physician’s appointments.
Shift: Night Shift – 2 - 8-hour shifts which may be 3p-11p or 11p-7a and 2 - 12 hour shifts that would be 7p-7a. Includes weekends. This position will be onsite.
Job Specific Competencies:
Communication with Patients/Family and Multidisciplinary Teams:
Patient/Family Interaction:
- Greet, orient, and answer questions from patients and family members.
- Advise patients and family members of available services.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, including provider visits, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments based on provider orders.
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.
Multidisciplinary Teams:
- Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to ensure that customer requests and needs are met.
- Acknowledge and clarify customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented, and addressed.
- Communicate pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, and necessary preparations to patients, families, physicians, team members, and other patient care areas, whether in person, by mail, by phone, by online applications, or secure messaging.
Record Maintenance:
- Prepare and maintain appointment templates and/or patient records electronically and/or manually as directed.
- Update relevant patient information to maintain an accurate patient record.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Handle and process a complex and varied series of documents and situations.
- Focus on deadlines, specifically the time and/or date in which a particular task or assignment is due for completion.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Three years of relevant work experience. May substitute additional education for required experience on a one to one basis.
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
