Job Title: Per Diem Clinical Nurse – PACU (P4B)
Work Schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, including weekends
Department: Transition Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Summary:
Join the Transition PACU (P4B) team at MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Per Diem Clinical Nurse. This is a rewarding opportunity to care for post-anesthesia patients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Our unit is known for its strong sense of teamwork, clinical excellence, and support for professional growth.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum of 4 years of recent PACU or ICU nursing experience

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills

  • Calm and effective under pressure, especially in emergency situations

  • Skilled communicator with patients, families, and care teams

  • Actively pursues professional development and excellence in care

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, high-quality care to patients recovering from anesthesia in the PACU and Non-OR Recovery areas

  • Provide accurate documentation and effective discharge teaching

  • Serve as a clinical resource and liaison for families

  • Maintain ACLS certification; obtain PALS within 6 months of hire

  • Adhere to ASPAN standards and institutional protocols to ensure patient safety

  • Respond confidently to emergencies such as malignant hyperthermia and cardiac/respiratory events

  • Participate in shared governance, unit projects, and evidence-based initiatives

Education
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. 

Experience
Required: One year of relevant clinical nursing experience
Preferred: 4+ years of ICU or PACU clinical nursing experience

Licensure/Certification
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
