Pharmacy Extern - Inpatient
The Pharmacy Division is dedicated to ensuring safe, effective, and cost-conscious medication use while collaborating with healthcare professionals to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes. Ideal Candidate will be actively enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy program and certified Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) Pharmacist Intern license, Pharmacy Technician Registration or Pharmacy Technician Trainee Registration.
Working Hours: The working hours will be varied for this role.
Job-Specific Competencies
- Participate in monthly internship meetings, including:
- Preparation of drug monographs
- Completion of assigned readings
- Active engagement in discussions
- Be involved in at least one quality improvement project annually:
- Present the project at TSHP or another approved meeting
- Engage in assigned initiatives related to:
- Medication safety
- Pharmacy informatics
- Drug information
- Pharmacy education
- Pharmacy research
Clinical Practice Initiatives
- Perform data collection as assigned
- Assist with monitoring and patient care activities under supervision, including:
- Transitions of care
- Pharmacokinetic monitoring and dose adjustments
- Patient counseling
- Adjusting medication doses and schedules for organ dysfunction
- Reviewing labs and medication doses for high-alert medications
- Other assigned clinical tasks
Requirements:
Education: Active enrollment in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.
Preferred Education: None
Certification: One of the following: Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) Pharmacist Intern license, Pharmacy Technician Registration or Pharmacy Technician Trainee Registration.
Preferred Certification: ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification
Experience: None
Preferred Experience: 1 year experience in hospital or community pharmacy
