Principal Application System Analyst - DICOM
As a Principal Application Systems Analyst within Imaging Technology Solutions, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the technologies that power world‑class diagnostic imaging at MD Anderson. The ideal candidate for this role brings strong DICOM data migration experience along with deep understanding of PACS workflows and imaging system operations. They have hands‑on experience conducting requirements gathering, workflow analysis, and application support within a clinical environment, ensuring that imaging technologies align closely with clinical needs and operational goals.
They possess a solid understanding of client‑server application behavior, including business operations, performance considerations, and system dependencies. With working knowledge of supporting interfaces for client‑server applications, they are able to troubleshoot complex issues, ensure data integrity, and maintain seamless communication between interconnected imaging systems.
This candidate excels at partnering with clinical teams, technical staff, and vendors to deliver high‑quality solutions, and demonstrates strong analytical skills, clear communication, and a commitment to optimizing imaging workflows that support exceptional patient care.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Support for Multiple Software Applications
- Conduct process analysis including technical feasibility studies, functional requirements reviews, workflow assessments, and design evaluations.
- Provide consultation to end users on workflows, business processes, and system solutions.
- Lead sessions with user groups to collect data, build databases, catalog information, and document functional specifications.
- Assist in developing strategies involving emerging technologies, HIPAA compliance, change management, backup, disaster recovery, and security.
- Collaborate with technical teams and vendors to resolve application issues.
- Develop expertise in supported applications and understand departmental workflows and IS environments.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for software applications and technical environments.
- Develop and enforce system standards aligned with regulations and institutional policies.
- Identify system issues and facilitate priority responses from IS teams to resolve downtime events.
- Support troubleshooting of desktop, hardware, and network issues by providing system‑specific context.
- Support system upgrades and provide insight related to departmental application environments.
- Participate in planning and executing contingency, recovery, and cut‑over strategies.
- Provide end‑user application support, including during 24×7 operations when required.
- Respond promptly to support calls, prioritizing mission‑critical and patient‑care areas.
- Assist users with application questions, troubleshooting, and appropriate system utilization.
- Understand customer business needs and leverage application functionality to meet them.
- Perform service requests, database changes, system builds, and reference file maintenance.
- Complete assignments accurately and in alignment with established procedures.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Participation & Leadership in Systems Implementation
- Apply knowledge of the technical environment to all project‑related activities.
- Contribute to or lead development of project milestones, deliverables, plans, and timelines.
- Analyze technical requirements and provide input on system selection and design.
- Evaluate technical and business implications of new technology and provide recommendations.
- Document hardware and software architecture.
- Develop and maintain technical skills for system configuration and administration.
- Assist team members with configuration skill development.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve implementation and application issues.
- Ensure alignment of system design with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Ensure security access design complies with institutional guidelines.
- Participate in preparation and execution of test plans and scripts; ensure documentation and feedback are complete.
- Validate systems before production, ensuring high‑priority issues are resolved or mitigated.
- Support development of backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, security, and redundancy strategies.
- Define and document system technical requirements.
- Coordinate with other IT departments to deliver successful project outcomes.
Functional & Technical Leadership
- Provide leadership in assessing, acquiring, developing, implementing, and supporting technical solutions and resources.
Maintain Strong Relationship with Customer
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the Division of Diagnostic Imaging.
- Develop working knowledge of operational and clinical activities within assigned departments.
- Ensure technology solutions appropriately support clinical workflows and business processes.
EDUCATION
- Required: Bachelor's Degree
- Preferred: Master's Degree Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Healthcare Administration or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 7 years In progressive software systems implementation and support, business systems process analysis and design, Epic software, or domain to include two years lead/supervisory experience
- May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
DICOM Data migration experience, PACS workflow experience, working experience in requirements gathering and workflow analysis for applications maintenance and support in a clinical environment. Understanding of the business operations of client server applications. Working knowledge of supporting interfaces client server applications
