The primary purpose of the Public Safety Supervisor position is to plan and supervise the daily activities of UTPD Public Safety Officers and Senior Public Safety Officers, to be the main contact and resolution point for building occupants in order to resolve security and safety issues, and to maintain and implement policies, procedures and operational plans for ensuring safety and security. Coordinate with Police personnel as necessary to maintain standards, effective communication, and continuous improvement processes for delivery of security services in their assigned area.  Develop, train and evaluate personnel to meet professional standards and customer expectations. Through observation and patrol, safeguard institutional property, identify security issues and enforce institutional rules and regulations. In emergencies, observe, report and facilitate the orderly response to and if necessary, evacuation of buildings and structures.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Leadership and Administration  Provides leadership, supervision, training and professional development of public safety officers and senior public safety officers.  Conducts annual and periodic performance reviews for assigned personnel and provides periodic compliance and performance reports to management. Plans, schedules, coordinates, and assigns work and establishes goals and priorities for subordinate employees. Serves as a front-line contact with clients and acts as the customer’s advocate to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of security services.

Safety and Security Processes   Provides technical expertise to resolve safety and security issues involving personnel and other institutional staff. Responds to calls for service and provides requested services in a timely manner and in accordance with policies and procedures. Reviews processes and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency and makes recommendations on process improvements.

Access Control   Meets and confers with law enforcement personnel and directly supports police initiatives in university buildings and on property whether through intelligence, surveillance or as a patrol activity to prevent crime, identify wanted persons, or to anticipate the opportunity for crime, disorder, or fires. Meets and confers with security and access control systems management to ensure he/she and the staff have a clear and thorough working knowledge of security devices and protocols.  Ensures security devices are operating reliably and as intended, and that devices in failure are reported immediately when detected.

Other Duties as Assigned   Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus.  Local or long distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally.

EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five years Experience in security or related field to include two years in a supervisory/team lead capacity.
Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

LICENSES: 
Required: TDL - Texas Drivers License Valid Texas Class A, B, or C driver's license. 

Preferred Certification: One or more of the following:
•Physical Security Professional Certification (PSP) issued by the American Society for Industrial Security International (ASIS).
•Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) issued by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS).  
•Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Office (CAHSO) issued by IAHSS.
•Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor (CHSS) issued by IAHSS.
•Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) issued by IAHSS.
