Summary

Interested in learning more about lung cancer research? The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I is to provide technical assistance in either 1) animal genotyping and experiments, 2) tissue processing and immunohistochemistry, or 3) molecular biology and immunoblot analysis. Duties will include assistance with organizing reagents and samples, and assistance with general laboratory duties including ordering lab reagents, consumables and receiving shipments. The position requires independent decision-making, judgment and high organizational skills. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining safety standards in the laboratory.

The ideal Research Assistant I candidate should have experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and demonstrate a strong willingness to learn

Job Specific Competencies

·       Generally aid and support the PI in all their research and laboratory efforts

·       Independently performing animal experiments in consultation with PI (breeding, weening, genotyping, bleeding, tissue harvesting, injections, downstream processing and analysis)

·       Performs animal maintenance (safety protocols and standards, record keeping of animal inventory)

·       Is able to train new members of the laboratory in animal techniques.

·       Standard molecular techniques and perform tissue culture

·       Willingness to proactively learn new techniques and science

·       Ordering reagents and supplies.

·       Other duties as required.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: No experience 

Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint is required. Laboratory experience is a plus.
