The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks a Research Assistant I to support basic and translational research focused on prostate cancer and renal cell carcinoma within [Department information not provided]. The Research Assistant I will contribute to projects examining how host cardiometabolic health, body composition, genomics, and the androgen receptor interact to influence treatment outcomes. The Research Assistant I will perform data extraction, analysis, and scientific communication tasks that advance ongoing research initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have foundational training in a scientific discipline, experience handling and organizing research data, and familiarity with tools for data analysis and scientific communication. Experience with clinical data extraction, Excel-based data management, and exposure to image analysis or segmentation tools is advantageous. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams are important for success in this role.

Responsibilities:
Clinical Data Extraction & Management
• Extract clinical data from the Electronic Medical Record for patients with prostate cancer and renal cell carcinoma
• Manage and organize research data within Excel to ensure accuracy and accessibility
• Generate electronic datasets for analysis and reporting
 
Body Composition & Imaging Analysis
• Perform body composition analyses using automated segmentation tools as instructed by supervising faculty
• Prepare and manage image files for analysis and presentation
• Utilize cloud-based systems for storing and sharing image and data files where applicable
 
Scientific Communication & Reporting
• Generate figures using tools such as BioRender for presentations and publications
• Prepare draft manuscripts, abstracts, and scientific communications based on analyzed data
• Present findings clearly in written and visual formats
 
Laboratory & Biospecimen Support
• Assist with data generation and processing related to biospecimen analyses
• Support laboratory-related research activities in alignment with study protocols
Collaboration & Communication
• Communicate results effectively with supervisors and team members
• Follow instructions and provide updates on assigned tasks
• Collaborate with staff, students, fellows, and visitors in a professional manner
• Demonstrate clear and accurate communication in English in both verbal and written formats

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Basic Science.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: None.
  • Preferred: Experience doing retrospective medical research +/- translational work.
