The Research Investigator applies technical expertise and experience to coordinate, design and carry out research projects. 



KEY FUNCTIONS



• Technical Research  

• Assist in projects related to the development of optimal clinical 

specimen preparation for different types of ancillary testing with particular emphasis on molecular testing in accord with appropriate institutional and regulatory guidelines

• Write technical reports for patent applications, IND reports and scientific publications

• Assists in the development of new procedures and improves upon existing techniques relevant to the research

• Must keep meticulous records of cell lines, primary samples, plasmid stocks, and material isolated from primary cells.

• Perform experiments associated with cancer research. Should have knowledge and experience in basic tissue culture, RNA,DNA and Protein isolation from cells and tissues, quantitative RT-PCR, western blot, virus production and stable overexpression or knockdown cell line generation, Flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry.

• Knowledge in cancer metabolism pathways and experience with metabolic assays are preferred. 

• Experience in handling animals (mice) and perform tasks such as tail vein injections, intraperitoneal injections, subcutaneous injections, bleeding the mice for sample collection, bioluminescence imaging, CT scanning, are preferred. 

 


Data Analysis  

• Application of flow cytometry for apoptosis, cell cycle analysis

• Design and execution of immune cell based assays

• Proficiency in immunological techniques (flow cytometry, intracellular staining, cytotoxicity assays,  ELISA, ELISpot, etc.), cell biology (transient and stable engineering of cell lines, also using viral transduction, immunocytochemistry, microscopy), and molecular biology (molecular cloning, transient and stable gene silencing, methylation specific PCR)

techniques

• Perform animal work – dosing(oral gavage, IP or IV), tissue 

preparation and sample processing

• Maintains animal colonies, including overseeing breeding, genotyping, and record keeping for all animal strains

• Performs animal and cell culture drug treatment studies

• Perform necropsies and tissue collection for histopathological 

evaluation

• Perform Immunofluorescence and interpretation of results and data

 analysis 

• Ability to perform in vitro assays and maintenance of cell lines

 


Lab Development and Oversight    

• Perform general laboratory functions and procedures including maintaining inventory and operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment, ordering supplies, preparing solutions, 

maintaining cleanliness and safety in a laboratory setting

• Ability to work independently and in a team under minimum 

supervision

• Train and oversee research technicians and students participating in

 research in the laboratory

• Excellent analytical, communication, organizational and presentation skills are essential.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential

• Technical proficiency in standard biochemical, cellular and molecular biology techniques and in in vivo/ex vivo/in vitro immunology 

approaches

• Strong results-driven personality with high level of enthusiasm, 

energy and confidence

• Excellent analytical, communication, organizational and presentation skills are essential.


EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE
Required: Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience. 
Preferred: Proficiency in standard biochemical, cellular and molecular biology techniques and in in vivo/ex vivo/in vitro immunology.
